This video I shot last year, only just allowed to release it. I wanted to document the making of the machine, because I thought it was so fucking great and very unique. This was originally meant to be released before the album to build up a bit of hype around this weird awesome master piece, it was made by a musical madman and genius Geert.
The location was at NDSM werf in Amsterdam at Geert’s epic workshop, I wanted the vibe to be a little creepy and mysterious, I wanted De Staat’s fans to be a little confused but curious. Every time I look at the huge metal rig, I think that it should be in a contemporary gallery somewhere. This beast lays down the beat on back to the grind.
The name came about when we were on the way home on the boat, we were discussing the machine and other things, I cant remember the exact details but I said something along the lines of, ”well..back to the grind next week.” Torre asked what does that mean? I said its a term in english for a hard repetitive cycle, a work cycle, day in day out, It becomes machine like, grinding away. I think it stuck from there on.
Cheers Saint and Frank.
